About

ME
First and foremost, I am an elated husband and proud father. I am also an Emergency Medicine physician who learned there is so much more to health than conventional medicine can offer. Life has taken me on an enlightening journey, inspiring me to become deeply passionate about health and wellness.

THE (INITIALLY SCARY) BACKSTORY
On September 7, 2007, I peed blood. That’s right—I stared in disbelief at the crimson toilet water as I thought, “This isn’t right.” A trip to a urologist’s office and one CAT scan later, I was diagnosed with kidney cancer. Was this terrifying? Definitely. Did it compel me to grow? Absolutely. I began a captivating journey of discovery into fascinating topics such as wellness, nutrition, meditation, and personal development. Believe it or not, I had little interest in these subjects before my diagnosis. Until that time, I had always believed that modern medicine—pills and procedures—was the way to maintain good health. But…that all changed. Please don’t misunderstand—pills and procedures have their place, and they are important. Moreover, they can be life-saving in critically ill patients.

However, true health, wellness, vitality, and clarity really are all about lifestyle. Much of my belief regarding the importance of healthy lifestyles stems from my experience with cancer and subsequent self-education. The crucial nature of this knowledge was then crystallized by caring for thousands of patients in the Emergency Department who were needlessly suffering from complications of diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, obesity, and cancer. Over the years, I realized there was a positive side—it didn’t have to be this way. I understood that these conditions could often be prevented and frequently reversed.

THE FUTURE
I have years of experience caring for tens of thousands of patients in the ER, and it is my unshakeable belief that to live our healthiest lives, we should all be active participants in our health. If you aspire to live your most invigorating life, you must do your best to take care of the most precious gift given to you. You can be better. We can be better.

I envision a world where diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, obesity, and cancer are the exceptions rather than the rule. I sincerely believe in us and am eager to provide guidance, teach, and inspire. I have written nutrition-themed children’s adventure books and also earned my board certification in Lifestyle Medicine in service of my mission.

MY OTHER JOYS
I love eating a whole-food, plant-based diet. I find peace in meditation. I love running, biking, and upper-body workouts. I also take great pleasure in reading, learning, and teaching. Last, but certainly not least, I cherish my time with my wife, two sons, and four dogs.
